One man is dead and another was transported to a local hospital after a vehicle hit 2 motorcycles in Broussard.

Officers with the Broussard police department responded to a major traffic crash just after 9 p.m. last night at the intersection of E. Main Street (LA 182) and S. Girouard Road. The crash involved two motorcycles and a Volkswagon Bug.

Broussard police report, the driver of the Volkswagon, Jacob Romero, 21 of Breaux Bridge, was traveling eastbound on E. Main Street and was approaching the intersection of S. Girouard Road when the passenger stated to turn suddenly. When Romero turned left he struck the two motorcycles, a 2006 Harley Davidson driven by Scott Bonin, 34 of New Iberia, and a 1997 Harley Davidson, driven by Ryan Maturin, 33 of New Iberia, who were traveling westbound on E. Main Street.

According to police Romero stated he didn’t see the motorcycles.

Bonin was ejected off the motorcycle and landed in a grassy area near the motorcycle. He was transported to a local hospital with major injuries. During the trip he was said to be talking to emergency personnel, but he later died as a result of his injuries at the hospital. Maturin was also ejected from his motorcycle and landed in the roadway just past his motorcycle. He was transported to a local hospital with moderate injuries.

Both Bonin and Maturin were wearing helmets at the time of the incident. Romero was not injured and was wearing his seatbelt.

Romero was cited for failing to yield to oncoming traffic when turning left at an intersection.

Toxicology results are pending to determine alcohol usage if any. The case is still under investigation.
