Shortly after 12:00 pm on June 20, 2015, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a two vehicle fatality crash that occurred on Interstate 10 westbound at LA 415 in West Baton Rouge Parish. The crash took the life of 81 year old Larry E. Causey of Breaux Bridge, LA.

The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Causey was driving a 2000 Ford F-150 westbound on Interstate 10. At the same time, 51 year old Ernesto Aguilar of Cameron, TX was also traveling westbound on Interstate 10 in a 2013 Kenworth 18-wheeler. Aguilar stopped his vehicle due to traffic congestion from road construction and a previous crash. As Causey approached the traffic congestion, he failed to stop and steered his vehicle to the right striking the rear corner of the trailer.

Causey received serious injuries in the crash and was transported to Our Lady of the Lake Hospital by Acadian Air-Med where he was later pronounced deceased. Impairment is not suspected to be a factor in the crash and both drivers were restrained. A toxicology sample was taken from Causey and submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. Aguilar was given a chemical breath test and showed no detectable signs of impairment.
