Department of Justice Investigates Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office and the Ville Platte Police Department.
Representatives from the U.S. Department of Justice will attend an upcoming community meeting in Evangeline Parish to discuss the performance of two local law enforcement agencies.
The DOJ is currently investigating the Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office and the Ville Platte Police Department amid allegations of officers detaining people without proper cause.
Community activist Arthur Sampson tells KLFY the meeting is a forum for residents to speak without fear, “We just want the people to come out. Some people are afraid because of retaliation. I’ve talked to some people and that’s the biggest problem concerning this, they (authorities) see you speaking out and they come and target you.”
The meeting is scheduled for September 28, at the St. John Baptist Church on Hickory Street in Ville Platte.
