A 43-year-old man died Tuesday in Evangeline Parish after his pickup truck was hit by a trailer that came loose from another truck.
James Erwin, of Ville Platte, was headed south on La. 1171 when a trailer came loose from a Ford F250 pickup truck heading northbound, State Police spokesman Master Trooper Brooks David said. The trailer crossed the centerline and slammed into Erwin’s truck head-on.
State Police arrested two people Saturday in a March 13 fatal hit and run on LA 182 east of Jeanerette in which the victim was struck by two vehicles, neither of which stopped.
Timken was booked on counts of hit and run and obstruction of justice, while Norris was arrested for hit and run.
Koau Fong Lee spent more than two years in prison after his Toyota (TM) unexpectedly sped up and crashed into another car, instantly killing two people and badly injuring three others.
On Monday, a jury in Minnesota found that Toyota was 60% responsible for the accident and ordered the automaker to pay $11.4 million to Lee, his family and victims of the crash.
The verdict, which came after a three-week trial in federal court, said the accident was caused by the car’s unintended acceleration, a problem that forced a massive recall of Toyota vehicles from 2009 to 2011.
UPDATE: The traffic officer hit by a vehicle this morning in front of Our Lady of Fatima was taken to the hospital in good condition, according to Lafayette Police.
The crash involved five vehicles and happened after one of the vehicles failed to stop when the officer directed the vehicle to do so.
Two passengers from one of the vehicles were also taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
A five-vehicle accident in front of Our Lady Of Fatima has left a traffic cop injured.
No details on how the crash occurred, but we did learn the traffic officer was hit and is being transported to a hospital.

Lafayette Police say Brian Nolan, 49, of Lafayette, died at the intersection of Dulles Drive and Ambassador Caffery Parkway on Tuesday night after Federico Morales reportedly slammed into Nolan’s vehicle.

Officers with the Broussard police department responded to a major traffic crash just after 9 p.m. last night at the intersection of E. Main Street (LA 182) and S. Girouard Road. The crash involved two motorcycles and a Volkswagon Bug.
Broussard police report, the driver of the Volkswagon, Jacob Romero, 21 of Breaux Bridge, was traveling eastbound on E. Main Street and was approaching the intersection of S. Girouard Road when the passenger stated to turn suddenly. When Romero turned left he struck the two motorcycles, a 2006 Harley Davidson driven by Scott Bonin, 34 of New Iberia, and a 1997 Harley Davidson, driven by Ryan Maturin, 33 of New Iberia, who were traveling westbound on E. Main Street.
