Morphine

People have been using Morphine in many different forms for hundreds of years. It is derived from the poppy flower and belongs to the group of drugs known as analgesics. Analgesics, or opioids, are pain-reducing medications such as:

  • oxycodone (Oxycontin)
  • heroin
  • hydromorphone (Dilaudid).

 Schedule II Narcotic

Acute, sudden onset pain and chronic, long-lasting pain are treated with Morphine. The U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency and U.S. Food and Drug Administration classify it as a Schedule II narcotic.
