In 2013, our client was traveling east-bound on 1-10 through East Baton Rouge parish. She slowed her SUV when traffic became congested and was struck from behind by an 18-wheeler. The driver of the 18 wheeler was following too closely and couldn’t stop in time. Both vehicles sustained moderate damage, but were still drivable after the accident. The police were called and the truck driver was ticketed. The drivers exchanged insurance information without further incident.

Our client reported no injuries at the time of the crash, but began to feel pain after a few hours. Over the next few days the symptoms worsened. Our client was diagnosed with whiplash. Along with that, our client suffered with muscle spasms, a back sprain, headaches from the neck injury, and pain in both legs. Our client needed weeks of chiropractic treatment and expensive x-rays. Although the aftermath of the accident was ideal, our client was dissatisfied with the response and terms of the insurance company. They reached out to our law offices when they needed more help with car repairs and medical bills.

Results:

Though this seems like a simple case, sometimes you may need a little extra help after an accident. The Law Offices of L. Clayton Burgess were able to negotiate a settlement for our client. The $28,000 settlement fully covered our client’s medical bills, and their car repairs.

A note about settlements

Settlement amounts can be misleading. Every case is unique and has different circumstances. You can’t base expectations for your settlement on another person’s case. An attorney will perform a investigation of your case and determine expected amounts from there.
