The Baton Rouge, Gross-Tete and Opelousas Railroad was chartered in 1853. The company had an eastern terminus on the west bank of the Mississippi River across from Baton Rouge in what later became the City of Port Allen. A steam ferry boat, the Sunny South, made three trips a day to connect the railroad to Baton Rouge. The railroad ran westward into neighboring Iberville Parish passing the village of Rosedale. After reaching Bayou Grosse-Tete near the village of Grosse Tete, the line turned to the northwest and ran to Livonia in Pointe Coupee Parish, Louisiana, a total distance of twenty-six miles. The roadbed westward from Livonia to the Atchafalaya River had been prepared by 1861.

West Baton Rouge Parish is connected to East Baton Rouge Parish by the Huey P. Long Bridge (U.S. Highway 190) and the Horace Wilkinson Bridge (Interstate 10).

Wrongful death suits are filed when the wrongful conduct of a person or entity results in the death of another person, or, when “a person dies due to the fault of another,” according to Louisiana Civil Code Section 2512.2. Like personal injury, this area of tort can involve every area of tort practice, but your first step should be to consult with an experienced wrongful death attorney.

Wrongful death cases are different from personal injury cases. In case of wrongful death, the surviving members need to file a legal case citing wrongful actions that have led to the death, which can range from accidents to purposeful action. The purposeful action may be negligent, reckless, or an intentional act. While a wrongful death lawsuit will not bring back their loved one, this lawsuit can help the family make certain they are financially stable after their loved one’s untimely demise.

Our Louisiana wrongful death attorneys at the Law Offices of L. Clayton Burgess are specialists in this field. They will meticulously investigate the case and ensure all of the facts of the case are presented to the court in a clear and concise manner. Since the burden of proof is the responsibility of the victim’s family, it is essential to act quickly.

You do not have to face these problems alone. The wrongful death of a loved one is one of the most tragic situations a family can face.

We understand the emotional trauma and hardships the family members of the deceased go through. Louisiana’s statute of limitations for wrongful death gives the victim’s family one year to file a wrongful death claim in court, from the date of the victim’s death.
